Shahin Hedayat

Chairman of the Board

Shahin Hedayat comes to Apixio with over 25 years of experience in technology development, executive management and venture capital fundraising. Most recently, Shahin was the Co-Founder, Chairman & CEO of Beceem. Shahin propelled the company to become the undisputed world leader for mobile WiMAX chips having raised well over $110M equity funding from Tier one financial and strategic investors. Prior to Beceem, Shahin was President and Co-Founder of Centillium Communications. Shahin was instrumental in helping Centillium achieve IPO in year 2000 with a market cap of well over $3B. Prior to Centillium, Shahin worked for Cirrus Logic for over 11 years in various roles including VP of Engineering. Shahin received his MSEE and BSEE from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and is named in over 10 US patents.


Farzad (Zod) Nazem

Board Member & Platform Thought Leader

Zod brings 30 years of enterprise software and Internet media expertise, and proven leadership in developing and commercializing scalable, high performance internet media and search solutions. In his role as Platform Thought Leader, Zod will help deliver Apixio's mission of transacting search queries across a diverse community of provider organizations. Zod has been an independent investor and advisor since his retirement from Yahoo! in 2007.  He joined Yahoo! in 1996 as Vice President of Engineering and was appointed Chief Technology Officer a year later. He is credited with pioneering the massively scalable and cost effective web operations that allowed 600 million users make Yahoo! their reliable home on the internet.  During his 11 year tenure at Yahoo!, Zod helped acquire and integrate over 50 companies and managed over six thousand engineers representing half of the company's employees.  Between 1985 and 1996, Mr. Nazem held various software development and management positions at Oracle Corporation culminating in his role as Vice President of Media and Web Server Division.  His tenure at Oracle also included membership in the company's Product Division Management Committee which set overall strategy for Oracle products. From 1983 to 1985, Zod was a senior engineer at SYDIS, Inc., an office automation software and hardware start-up. Previously, he was recruited from California Polytechnic State University by Rolm Corporation to be a software engineer in the VLCBX division.  At age 19, he earned a B.S. degree in Computer Science with highest honors. Zod serves on the boards of Apixio Inc., NextBio and HAND Foundation. He lives with his wife and two kids in Atherton, California.  He enjoys golf, racquetball and travel.


Shawn Dastmalchi, Ph.D.

Chief Executive Officer, Board Member

Shawn brings to Apixio 19 years of combined academic and commercial experience in several industries including lifescience, medical device, health IT and Internet. Prior to Apixio, he was Director of Informatics Business at Carl Zeiss Meditec, Inc, where he was responsible for sales, marketing, service and support of Zeiss' health IT solutions in the U.S. market. In his prior role at Zeiss, Shawn was responsible for Zeiss' highest grossing diagnostic device product, Cirrus HD-OCT. Prior to Zeiss, Shawn held senior positions at Alpha Innotech Corp and aPeerance Inc. Shawn has also served as a business strategy consultant at several companies including Yahoo Inc. In addition to his industry experience, Shawn has 9 years of academic experience at UCSF and UC Berkeley where he has co-authored several publications and grants. Shawn received his undergraduate degree in Genetics from UC Davis and his PhD in the multi-disciplinary field of Vision Science from UC Berkeley.


Darren Schulte, M.D., M.P.P.


Dr. Darren Schulte brings to Apixio over ten years of academic and industry experience in health information technology, clinical data analytics, and care management. As the President, Darren will guide the business strategy, product development, customer operations, and clinical affairs to ensure Apixio meets the needs of its customers. Prior to joining Apixio, Darren led product strategy at Anvita Health, a health care analytics company that provides physician decision support tools for EHRs and other clinical management technologies. Preceding Anvita, he served in senior product and executive leadership roles at Alere, a global health management and rapid diagnostics company. Before Alere, he directed the clinical affairs and analytics team at Resolution Health, a subsidiary of WellPoint, which provides personal health care guidance solutions based upon patient-centric analysis of large payer data sets. While at Resolution Health, Darren led the effort to develop 25 evidence-based measures that were endorsed by the National Quality Forum to encourage ambulatory care quality measurement using electronic data. Darren earned his BS degree from UC Berkeley, his M.D. from Stanford University, and his Master of Public Policy degree from Harvard. Dr. Schulte trained in Internal Medicine at UCSF.


Jonathan Murray

Chief Business Development Officer

Jonathan brings over twenty years of consulting, business development and sales experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to working at Apixio, Jonathan was Senior Vice President of Business Development and President of Mid-America Region for Aetna’s Accountable Care Solutions division where he was responsible for implementing commercial ACOs between Aetna and selected provider partners. Prior to Aetna, Jonathan was Vice President of Sales and Business Development at Anvita Health, a company that provides clinical analytic solutions to providers and payers. At Anvita, Jonathan was directly responsible for revenue, and he established its market presence from a R&D start-up to acquisition by Humana in 2011. Prior to Anvita, Jonathan held senior leadership roles with Resolution Health Inc., acquired by Wellpoint, and IBM’s Global Business Services Healthcare Practice, including Client Solutions Executive. Jonathan received his undergraduate degree in business from Saint Mary’s University, San Antonio, Texas.


John O. Schneider

Chief Technology Officer

John brings to Apixio over 25 years of software technology and product development, managing research, and product and engineering experiences. Most recently John was the General Manager of the Adaptive Learning Products and the Chief Product Architect at Apollo Group. At Apollo, his team developed Adaptive Learning and Analytics products and technology, utilizing Big Data, knowledge engineering and machine learning techniques. Prior to Apollo, John was CTO of CloudTalk Inc. where his team developed a multitenant web and mobile messaging communications platform. At GE Healthcare, John was a director of software development and VP, developing instrumentation and informatics solutions that helped produce the human genome and discover gene function. John has held executive management roles in both product and engineering and has deep background in software technology development and engineering. John holds a BSE degree from Columbia University School of Engineering.


Imran Chaudhri

Technical Founder

Imran brings to Apixio 21 years of technology development , business strategy, and operations experience in several fields including telecommunication, content delivery networks and medical software. Imran co-founded Apixio with the vision of developing technology, operations and company culture that will one day revolutionize healthcare. As the IHE EyeCare Technical Committee Co-chair, Imran continues to make important contributions to data standards in medicine. Prior to Apixio, Imran co-founded Anka Systems and focused on the execution of EyeRoute's business development, product definition, engineering, and operations. EyeRoute was the world's first ophthalmology image management system. Before Anka Systems, Imran was founder and CTO of FastTide, the worlds first operational performance based meta-content delivery network. Prior to FastTide, Imran was the Chief Network Architect for X-Stream Networks, England's third largest consumer ISP. Imran received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from McGill University and his Masters degree in the same field from Cornell University.


Jeff Harmon

VP of Finance

Jeff Harmon brings to Apixio over 25 years of finance, accounting and administration experience in the software and SaaS business sectors. Most recently, Jeff was VP of Finance at Corelogic (CLGX), a mortgage information provider. Preceding CoreLogic, he was VP of Finance and Administration with Dorado Network Systems , a mortgage origination through SaaS provider. Prior to Dorado, he was VP of Finance and Accounting at Epocrates (EPOC), a health information through SaaS provider and Corporate Controller for Packeteer (PKTR), a bandwidth management software company. Jeff holds a BA from UCLA, a MBA from California State University at Hayward and an active CPA license.


Bob Rogers, Ph.D.

Chief Scientist

Bob Rogers brings to Apixio two decades of algorithm development and marketing experience. As Chief Scientist, Bob is responsible for strategic direction and development of the algorithms at the core of Apixio's applications. He is also Apixio's liaison to the medical and academic communities. Bob is the founder of Counterpart Consulting, a consulting firm specializing in advanced analytics for hedge fund and medical applications. Prior to Counterpart Consulting, Bob was Senior Product Manager at Carl Zeiss Meditec where he was responsible for the complete product lifecycle of the most commonly deployed diagnostic device in ophthalmology. Previously, Bob was founder and President of Tri-Valley Capital, a hedge fund, and co-founder and VP of R&D at Arjewel Inc, a private fund, that generated returns based on proprietary algorithms he developed. Bob has also spent several years as an academic researcher, has published a number of academic papers in astrophysics and artificial neural networks and is co-author of the book, "Artificial Neural Networks: Forecasting Time Series." Bob received his undergraduate degree in physics from UC Berkeley and his PhD in physics from Harvard University.
