Apixio passed every profile it tested at the Connectathon, focusing particularly on those related to the following IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) protocols: 1) Document Consumer: XDS.b and 2) Audit and Logging: ATNA client, CT (consistent time) client. Apixio was also able to informally test PIX/PDQ identity management services. IHE is a recognized global leader in creating healthcare industry standards related to the exchange of clinical information across organizations. Most Health Information Exchanges leverage the same IHE standards.

“Connecting our system to standards based Health Information Exchanges is in line with the PCAST (President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology) goals of ‘Realizing the full potential of Health Information Technology to Improve Healthcare for Americans’”, said Imran Chaudhri, CTO of Apixio. “Our IHE white paper (www.apixio.com/ihewhitepaper), explains how we can ‘pull’ data from existing Health Information Exchanges to create the patient centric DEAS-like functionality, envisioned in the PCAST report using today’s IHE protocols. Our search and mapping engine provides normalization of ad-hoc and discrete data, supports many standard vocabularies such as ICD9, CPT, LOINC, and SNOMED, and is very similar in functionality to the UEL described in the PCAST report. Finally, our underlying patient centric architecture, in conjunction with our mapping engine, allows patients to easily and naturally specify concepts to be filtered per the PCAST security and privacy recommendations.”

Connecting to Health Information Exchange, “HIE”, services at the Interoperability Showcase validates the fundamentals of multi-source information access, indexing, and normalization that are required to deliver meaningful information, securely and reliably, to healthcare providers.
